Phoenix Rising rookies earn league spotlight after win over Monterey Bay

PHOENIX – Phoenix Rising’s next generation of players is making waves. Ascel Essengue and Jamison Ping were both featured in the USL Championship’s Young Player Spotlight after standout Week 11 performances that helped lift the club to its first home win of the season.

With Pape Mar Boye and Mohamed Traore sidelined, Essengue was brought in from L.A. Galaxy. He helped Rising bring in its first win at home this season against Monterey Bay FC on May 17, keeping them at only five shots and none were on target.

Ping has been developing his skills with Rising Academy, Rising’s youth soccer development program. He completed 12 of 13 passes in the win against Monterey Bay and recorded his first assist.
