Marte suffered a left hamstring injury back on April 4th as he rounded first on his way to second base in a game against the Washington Nationals. Before his injury, Ketel was on fire to begin the season as he slashed .346/.469/.462 as he started his quest early for an MVP campaign yet again. Last season Marte blasted 36 home runs along with 95 RBIs. His batting average of .292 and OPS of .932 helped Marte win his first silver slugger and saw him enter the MVP conversation.

In his absence, some players have helped pick up the slack. Corbin Carroll, Geraldo Perdomo, Josh Naylor, and Pavin Smith all had a great month of April as they got into a consistent routine while Marte was recovering. Even though the lineup at times has missed its clutch hitting at the plate, the D-Backs still held down the fort for the time being while being in the most competitive division in the entire league. Marte will now look to fit himself right back into this Snakes lineup, bringing his superstar prowess with him.
