The Arizona Diamondbacks lost another close matchup yesterday against the Washington Nationals, as they lose their first series of the season.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!Early on in the game, Corbin Burnes didn’t look sharp on the mound. His pitch count was rapidly increasing, and Burnes had problems throwing strikes. He went five innings, and gave up four runs on seven hits. The D-Backs don’t seem too worried at the moment, as they are optimistic that Burnes will bounce back and show his Cy-Young abilities.

This Nationals ball club was coming into this series limping with a 1-6 record, and the D-Backs could have capitalized on that. They almost did, as this was the second game of the series where they lost by only one run. It was another close one for the D-Backs at Nationals Park on Sunday, although the Snakes ended up on the losing end. It is a long season, but these games are definitely ones that could come back to haunt them. Especially with the way the 2024 season ended, and how good the NL west is right now, these early winnable games are the games the D-Backs will be looking to take advantage of going forward.

The, “Answer-backs”, were coming alive again. Alek Thomas hit in one run in the eighth inning, making it only a 5-4 Nationals lead. In the ninth inning, Corbin Carroll was able to get a double with only one out. With his speed, any base hit would have tied the game. Washington closing pitcher Kyle Finnegan got out of the inning though, getting Randal Grichuk and Geraldo Perdomo to ground out, leaving Carroll only 90 feet away from tying the game.

The D-Backs will look to right the ship as they face the Baltimore Orioles for a home series starting on Monday, April 7th.
