PHOENIX — Phoenix Rising’s sporting director, Brandon McCarthy, sat down with AZCentral to discuss Rising’s newest scouting program.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!McCarthy revealed that the expanded program not only sets to scout potential talent but also gives opportunities to individuals with a passion for scouting. “How do you watch soccer as a scout and not just as a fan,” McCarthy told AZCentral. “Not watch it emotional, but really analyze the game and break down what a player is doing.”
The new program offers applicants to not only do the hands-on work that comes with scouting but also learn as they go. In a Rising media report, McCarthy emphasises the importance of not only growing players but everyone who has a crucial part in making the club successful.

Phoenix Rising Football Club practices at the fields outside the Phoenix Rising stadium on April 2, 2025, in Phoenix, Ariz.
“This program is more than just scouting—it’s a pathway into professional sports where opportunities like this are rare,” McCarthy said. “…These scouts will play a crucial role in identifying talent for our first team, directly impacting our success on the field while gaining the tools to carve out their own futures in professional soccer.”
McCarthy is asked about the potential this new program may have for bringing in more international reach. He says it will give them a better chance to see the world they didn’t have access to before. “You accept that you’re gonna miss most of [the world], but the more the more you can see the more beneficial it is,” McCarthy told AZCentral.
