Merrill Kelly did not look like himself, and had a rough first road start of the 2025 season. Kelly went 3.2 innings pitched and gave up nine runs on nine hits. His day also included three walks while letting up three home runs as well. Carlos Carrasco ended up pitching 5.1 innings, and gave up three runs on five hits.

The Answerbacks came alive once again, as Geraldo Perdomo hit a grand slam off of Yankees pitcher Ryan Yarbrough. In a massive moment, Perdomo hit his first home run of the season in grand fashion, bringing the score within two runs making it only a 9-7 Yankees lead. Every time it seemed like the D-Backs got within striking distance, the Yankees offense came alive right back and widened the distance.

They had an opportunity to make some real noise again in the eighth inning when Ketel Marte pinch hit for Garrett Hampson, although former D-Back Luke Weaver entered the game for the Yankees shortly after and took over as he retired the next four hitters.

The Arizona Diamondbacks won their first away series of 2025 despite the loss today, they now head to Washington to face the Nationals in a three-game road series starting tomorrow, Friday, April 5th. The D-Backs will look to roll out newly extended Brandon Pfaadt against the Nats’ projected pitcher Jake Irvin.

Can the Arizona Diamondbacks get their first sweep of the 2025 season over the Yankees?
