Opening Day was a little hectic for the Arizona Diamondbacks, as they lose to the Chicago Cubs 10-6. The D-Backs looked solid early, as Gallen was ringing guys up. Newcomer Josh Naylor put a run up on the board in the first inning, and the excitement around the club was everywhere. Eugenio Suárez also blasted a 430-foot homer to left field, the first homerun for the D-Backs on the season.
Zac Gallen unfortunately was taken out in the fourth inning, throwing only 43 strikes in 83 pitches. Ryne Nelson was put in after, and with a couple defensive miscues, he left the game after only 1.2 innings. He struck out three, but allowed five hits and four runs on 50 pitches.
Newcomer Jalen Beeks, and youngster Bryce Jarvis seemed to settle in at times on the mound. Jarvis, even though looking shaky in the ninth, threw a scoreless eighth inning. Beeks on the other end went scoreless in 1.2 innings pitched.
Ketel Marte picked up right where he left off, as he ended his Opening Day campaign going 2 for 5 with two runs scored and a double. His partner in crime Corbin Carroll came to play as well, as he recorded a hit, a double, and a walk.
