GLENDALE, Ariz. — The desert air crackled with anticipation. For years, the Cardinals’ defensive line has been a whisper, not a roar. The Arizona Cardinals opened up free agency with a bang by signing for Philadelphia Eagles and Super Bowl LIX champion defensive lineman Josh Sweat, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Arizona and the edge rusher agreed to a four-year, $76 million deal that includes $41 million guaranteed.

Sweat is coming off one of his best seasons, posting eight sacks, 41 tackles, nine tackles for loss and 15 quarterback hits for the Eagles defense that was atop the rankings en route to their Super Bowl win. The 27-year-old pass rusher had a huge championship game, putting up 2.5 sacks and three QB hits against Patrick Mahomes in their 40-22 win over the Kansas City Chiefs.

This isn’t just a signing; it’s a declaration. The Cardinals are serious about fixing their pass rush. Will Sweat be the spark they need? Only time will tell, but one thing’s for sure: the NFC West just got a whole lot more interesting.
