Contrary to how things transpired in the fallout of the trade deadline, Phoenix Suns star Kevin Durant doesn’t really seem to want to leave Phoenix.

To be fair to the 36-year-old All-Star, he’s never outwardly come out and say he’d like to be traded from the Suns despite multiple reports suggesting that the front office is leaning towards trading him. In fact, everything that Durant has done since suggests the opposite.

From defending coach Mike Budenholzer after they were caught in a heated exchange against the Los Angeles Clippers on Tuesday, to tagging along with rookie Suns teammate Ryan Dunn to watch his brother, Justin Dunn, pitch for the Chicago White Sox in Spring Training, to replying to a fan on X (formerly Twitter) imploring him to leave Phoenix with two simple words — “make me.”

Durant at media day to begin the season said himself that he wants to play out his contract with the Suns before taking the next steps in his career, whether it be signing an extension or testing free agency when the contract ends after the 2025-26 season.

We might not even get to that points, though, because between blindsiding Durant by throwing him in trade talks this season and the reports circulating that he is likely to be traded, how exactly does it benefit Kevin Durant staying in Phoenix as much as he’d like to?

Suns season and future just dramatically changed from an injury
