PHOENIX – Arizona State men’s basketball breaks a six-game losing streak to Kansas State via a dominant return by freshman center Jayden Quaintance. During the losing streak, Quaintance had been in and out of the lineup, dealing with nagging injuries that held back the freshman from his dominant start to the season. ASU struggled without the prowess of the 17-year-old, but Quaintance had a resurgence in the 66-54 win by ASU.

In Sunday’s game, Quaintance dropped 18 points, seven rebounds, and three stocks. He was a team-best +20 and dominated the interior. Quaintance went 2-for-4 from beyond the arc, showing his versatility by shooting and relying on his raw athletic ability to score in the trenches. His 18-point performance is the first time since January 21st that Quaintance scored in double figures.

The Cleveland native helped ASU score 30 paint points and aided in the program’s best defensive performance this season. Kansas State shot 5-for-26 from beyond the arc and 33.3% from the field. The Sun Devils’ on-ball pressure was too much for the Wildcats to handle, while Quaintance’s rim protection lockdown the paint.

Quaintance helps ASU get its first win in February and allows head coach Bobby Hurley and the program to breathe for now. The climb is still a long journey ahead, but if Quaintance can repeat this performance, the sky is the limit for the Sun Devils.
