Legendary Indy-500 pace cars up for grabs at Scottsdale Barrett-Jackson Auction

SCOTTSDALE – The 2025 Scottsdale Barrett-Jackson Auction captivated an audience of enthusiastic bidders and celebrities from January 18 to 26. Among the highlights were historic Indianapolis 500 pace cars that left attendees in awe.

Here are a few of the historic Indy-500 pace cars that Burn City Sports saw at this year’s Scottsdale auction:

1972 Oldsmobile Cutlass 442 Indy Pace Car

This 1972 Oldsmobile Cutlass Hurst/Olds Pace Car is powered by a matching-numbers 455ci engine mated to a 3-speed automatic transmission. This example was a collaboration between Hurst and Oldsmobile for the 1972 Indianapolis 500. It has been stored in a heated garage for the last 10 years and, other than a repaint, remains in original condition. The owner’s manuals, booklets and service receipts are included in the sale

1978 CHEVROLET CORVETTE INDY PACE CAR

This 1978 Chevrolet Corvette Indy Pace Car Silver Anniversary Edition is powered by a L82 350ci 8-cylinder engine backed by a 4-speed automatic transmission. The radiator and water pump have been replaced. It features functional power windows, door locks, antenna and 8-track tape player. The seller states that the clock and tachometer do not function. The decals have never been installed. 9,836 miles (title reads exempt).

2008 CHEVROLET CORVETTE INDY 500 PACE CAR

This 2008 Chevrolet Corvette Indy 500 Pace Car Edition is car No. 146 of 234 coupes produced for the model year. Under the hood is a 6.2-liter LS3 V8 engine making 436hp, paired with a 6-speed manual transmission and a 3.42 limited-slip rear axle. It is equipped with a Z51 Performance Handling Package, four-wheel disc brakes, four-wheel independent suspension with transverse composite springs, speed-sensitive power steering and a dual-mode exhaust system. This example is finished in black with official Indy 500 graphics, Cloisonne fender badges, a Z06-style rear spoiler and forged chrome wheels fitted with Michelin tires. It also has xenon projector headlamps, solar-ray tinted glass and a removable roof panel. The interior features a two-tone Titanium leather upholstery with Indy 500 seat embroidery. This example is equipped with the 3LT Preferred Equipment Group, featuring heated 6-way power adjustable bucket seats, a Bose 7-speaker audio system, AM/FM/6-CD stereo, XM satellite radio, dual-zone automatic climate control, head-up display, Memory Package, Universal Home Remote and steering-wheel audio controls. Standard C6 Corvette equipment includes airbags, a tilt steering column and power accessories. The inside of the console armrest is signed and numbered by Brazilian racing driver Emerson Fittipaldi. The sale includes original books, manuals and Window Sticker.
