The Chiefs, currently 5-0, have won the last two Super Bowls and three of the last five (2020, 2023 and 2024).
Durant, who won the NBA Finals with the Golden State Warriors in 2017 and 2018, is one of three players on the Suns with an NBA championship, the other two being Damion Lee (2022 with Warriors) and two-way guard Collin Gillespie (2023 with Denver Nuggets). Devin Booker and Frank Kaminsky are the only players on the roster from the Suns team who lost in the 2021 Finals to the Milwaukee Bucks, who were led by Phoenix’s new head coach Mike Budenholzer.
The Suns are still searching for their first NBA championship in their 57 years of existence, despite making it to the Finals three times (1976, 1993 and 2021). Phoenix was swept by the Minnesota Timberwolves in the first round last season and has the most regular-season wins of all NBA teams over the last four seasons, but no championship to show for it. Adams suggested that Durant should have said the Buffalo Bills.
“Nah,” Durant said back. “They’re known for getting there and losing. I don’t want to be one of those guys, so I’d rather go with the champs and just take on that mentality.”
Phoenix wrapped up the preseason with a 3-2 record and opens the regular season on Oct. 23 on the road against the Los Angeles Clippers.
