It has been a challenging start for 22-year-old Tommy Troy in the Arizona Fall League. The D-backs’ No. 5 prospect, according to MLB Pipeline, has struggled at the plate, collecting just one hit in 18 at-bats through the first couple of weeks of action.

In 2024, battling some injuries, he played just 72 games, posting a .234 batting average in that span. His season with the Hillsboro Hops (High-A) ended on a tough note, as he recorded seven strikeouts in his final five games.
Now looking to rebound in the Arizona Fall League, Troy’s struggles have continued. In 21 plate appearances, he has struck out seven times, drawn just one walk, and managed only one hit — a double. His batting average ranks among the lowest for qualified hitters in the league.
Speaking about his struggles heading into this fall, Troy told Nick Piecoro at AZ Central, “I need to be that guy. Regardless of how I’m performing, that needs to be me.”
Troy emphasized the importance of staying positive and focusing on improvement: “I took it on the chin, is what I like to say. And just move forward. I was able to at least finish strong the last month. Definitely learned a lot, and I’ll keep improving as I move forward.”
