Diakite and Wood originally joined the Suns when they each signed exhibit-10 contracts, giving them the opportunity to turn their training camp deals into standard contracts heading into the regular season. Fan-favorite Frank Kaminsky is also on the same type of deal but is still on the team that has an open roster spot.
Reuniting with Suns head coach Mike Budenolzer, Diakite had seven points, five rebounds and one assist in three preseason games for Phoenix. Budenholzer and Diakite were on the 2020-21 Milwaukee Bucks team who wound up winning the NBA Championship.
The Guinean has played four seasons in the NBA with five different teams, the Bucks, Oklahoma City Thunder (2021-22), Cleveland Cavaliers (2022-23) and both the San Antonio Spurs and New York Knicks last year. He has averaged 3.1 points and 2.3 rebounds in 55 games (six starts).
Wood wrapped up his collegiate career this past season and played for the Atlanta Hawks in the summer league before joining Phoenix. During his short preseason stint as a Sun, the Nevada native finished with two points and one rebound against the Detroit Pistons on Friday and appeared in the 118-114 win over the Denver Nuggets on Sunday. He spent six years in college split between Washington, Portland, UNLV and Tulane, with him redshirting during the 2019-20 season at UNLV.
The Suns now have 18 players on its roster.
