The Diamondbacks had a game to forget against the Giants, as they turned in another flat performance in a 11-0 loss at Chase Field. It marked the first time in 50 home games that they were shutout and Arizona pitchers gave up five home runs in a four-inning span, the most they’ve allowed in a game all season. Coupled with the Braves defeating the Mets, their lead for a playoff spot is now just half a game with four games to go.

The big turning point of the game happened in the bottom of the first. The Diamondbacks had a chance to take a lead against Logan Webb after an infield single and a walk, but a double play short-circuited their best scoring chance of the night. The Giants capitalized in the moment, landing some big haymakers to knock Arizona out for the game rather quickly.

After a solid first inning, the wheels came off for Pfaadt. He gave up the first of five home runs to Patrick Bailey, who crushed a 3-1 fastball to right center to put the Giants on the board. It could have been more in the inning, but Corbin Carroll leapt up to bring back a would-be home run from Mike Yastrzemski for the final out of the inning. Pfaadt escaped with just a 1-0 deficit, but it would only be a slight reprieve.

The Giants continue to crush the ball in the series. A single and a double put two runners in scoring position for Michael Conforto, who drove a center-cut fastball off the video board sign in left center field to make it 4-0. Pfaadt only recorded one more out before getting pulled for Blake Walston. Walston had a chance to get out of the inning with no further damage, but Geraldo Perdomo booted the ball to keep the inning alive. Brett Wisely took advantage of the situation with another home run that pushed the game to 7-0.

After the first inning, the Diamondbacks offense was shut down by Webb, who cruised through six scoreless innings. Arizona hardly put much pressure on the Giants starter and went hitless in five at-bats with runners in scoring position.

Next Game
