According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, the Cardinals are re-signing QB Desmond Ridder to the practice squad.

Arizona originally acquired Ridder from the Atlanta Falcons in exchange for wide receiver Rondale Moore in March. However, Ridder struggled throughout the preseason and training camp. These were his stats throughout the team’s three preseason games:

  • Week 1 vs Saints: 4-for-9 for 43 passing yards, 5 rushes for 39 yards
  • Week 2 vs. Colts: 6-for-10 for 71 passing yards, 1 rush for -1 yards
  • Week 3 vs. Broncos: 10-for-16 for 111 passing yards, 2 rushes for 25 yards

Ridder does have a lot of meaningful experience, however, as he played in 15 games for Atlanta last season and completed 249-of-388 passes for 2,836 yards, 12 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. The Cincinnati product also rushed for 193 yards and five touchdowns in the 2023 season, his second in the NFL, and the Falcons were 6-7 when he was the starter.

Clayton Tune is the Cardinals’ clear backup quarterback right now after he was the only quarterback outside Kyler Murray to make the 53-man roster.

Cardinals seventh-round pick Jaden Davis is also reportedly joining the team’s practice squad (per ML Football).

Arizona is not done making moves, according to coach Jonathan Gannon.

“The dust has not settled,” Gannon said of his team’s roster to the media Wednesday. “The better indication of the 53-man roster will be on Monday … I feel really good where we’re at right now and look forward to running around the practice field today and tomorrow.”
