Nick Ahmed’s rollercoaster season took another turn on Monday, as the veteran shortstop was designated for assignment by the Los Angeles Dodgers after just two weeks with the team.

Ahmed, who had been released by the Diamondbacks less than a year ago, was a mainstay in Arizona’s infield for a decade, earning two Gold Gloves during his tenure. However, with the emergence of young talent like Geraldo Perdomo at shortstop, Ahmed’s value diminished over time.

Before the 2024 season, Ahmed joined the San Francisco Giants, staying with the team until his release on July 7th. When the Giants visited Arizona for a series against the Diamondbacks, Ahmed declined the National League Championship ring he had earned by being with the D-backs for more than half of the previous season.

A few weeks after leaving the Giants, Ahmed signed with another NL West team, the Dodgers. In his second game with Los Angeles, the veteran delivered a clutch two-run go-ahead homer against his former team, the Giants.

Unfortunately, this was one of Ahmed’s few highlights in Los Angeles, as he went just 11-for-48 at the plate and failed to drive in any additional runs beyond that homer.
