Ishbia said that Durant and Booker had “1,000% support” from him and the Suns ahead of their quest for the gold medal, even with Durant missing all five of the team’s exhibition games with a calf injury.
“I’m gonna probably go over there and watch them, support those guys,” Ishbia said on The Pat McAfee Show before the Olympics. “That’s what we do. We’re a part of each other’s team, part of each other’s lives.”
Ishbia did end up going to Paris to watch both the men’s and women’s USA basketball teams capture Olympic golds. The women’s team featured Mercury players Diana Taurasi, Kahleah Copper and Brittney Griner.

“Has been a lot of fun watching all the Olympics so far, especially the Men’s and Women’s USA Basketball teams!” Ishbia said in a post on X on Aug. 8. “Having 5 Phoenix Suns/Mercury players on the two teams has been special and hope they all bring home the gold!”

Ishbia’s hope came true, as the men’s team won its fifth-straight Olympic gold and the women won their eighth straight. For Durant, it was his men’s Olympic-record fourth gold medal and Booker’s second. The Suns and Mercury became the first NBA/WNBA organization with five gold medalists in a single Olympics.
“It’s a basketball town and we want to put the city on the map,” Booker said of Phoenix’s Olympic representation. “No better way than winning gold.”
