The Diamondbacks have been much better baseball of late, but it’s never a bad thing to take a step away from the grind of a season. The grind can be particularly tough on managers, who often replay in their minds what they could have done better to avoid bad outcomes. With the team having strong postseason aspirations, having a day to his mind off the grind and recharge can go a long way for Lovullo in the final six-week stretch of the season.
“I’m able to step away from it at the right times,” Lovullo told Arizona Diamondbacks on SI. “I talk about balance with these players all the time, getting away from the game when you can. I tried to do that yesterday the best that I could. But I was migrating to certain parts of my phone, check scores, checking standings. We’ve earned that right to see what’s going on.”
