If what Underhill says is true, the Cardinals will have to mitigate some high-end talent tonight. Players like starting quarterback Derek Carr, running back Alvin Kamara, defensive ends Cameron Jordan and Chase Young and former Cardinal Tyrann Mathieu could feature during a few series.
Former Pinnacle High School star and Phoenix native Spencer Rattler returns to Arizona and will have the chance to play against his hometown team, depending on how much the Saints want to utilize Carr. At Pinnacle, Rattler was a five-star recruit who threw for 11,083 yards with 116 passing touchdowns as well as rushing for 1,040 yards with 14 TDs throughout his four-year high school career. After last season with South Carolina in college, he was selected as a fifth-round (No. 150 overall) pick by the Saints in this year’s draft.
For the Cardinals besides starting quarterback Kyler Murray ruled out for the preseason and rookie superstar Marvin Harrison Jr. a confirmed starter vs. New Orleans, there is no news of who is or who isn’t going to play today.
Tonight will be the first time both of these two teams will play each other in a preseason game since a 20-15 Cardinals win in New Orleans on Aug. 17, 2018. Another preseason matchup was scheduled for Aug. 28, 2021, but it was canceled due to Hurricane Ida hitting the Gulf Coast region where Louisiana is located.
Kick-off between the Cardinals and Saints begins at 5 p.m. PT inside State Farm Stadium.
