“The Phoenix Suns today announced that the team has re-signed guard Damion Lee,” the Suns said in a release. “Per team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

“Lee (6’-5”, 210 pounds) ranked third in the NBA by shooting a career-best 44.5% from three-point range in his first season with the Suns in 2022-23, also averaging 8.2 points on 44.2% from the field and 90.4% from the free throw line in 74 games. Among his 27 games scoring in double figures in 2022-23, Lee scored a career-high 31 points on Jan. 13 at Minnesota and hit the game-winning jumper in the closing seconds of his Suns debut on Oct. 19 against Dallas. Lee did not play during the 2023-24 season following surgery to repair his right meniscus.

“A six-season NBA veteran, Lee won an NBA Championship with the Golden State Warriors in 2022. The 31-year-old holds career averages of 8.2 points on 43.6% shooting from the field, 37.9% from three-point range and 87.8% from the free throw line in 290 games with the Suns, Warriors and Atlanta Hawks. He has also appeared in 24 career playoff games, including 16 during Golden State’s run to the title in 2022.”

Lee, who missed all of last season after undergoing meniscus surgery, declined his player option with Phoenix ahead of free agency, but re-signed for basically the same amount on July 3. According to PHNX’s Gerald Bourguet, Lee’s contract is a veteran-minimum deal for one year and $2.8 million.

With the departure of Eric Gordon to the Philadelphia 76ers, Lee could see more minutes than he would have off the bench. The Suns’ top backup guards will consist of new signee Monte Morris and one of Grayson Allen or Royce O’Neale, whoever coach Mike Budenholzer decides will come off the bench.

Phoenix now has 14 of its 15 standard contract roster spots filled with Lee’s return. Bol Bol is the only one of these 14 to not officially re-sign with the Suns yet.
