ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported Tuesday that the Rockets had traded multiple picks with the Nets and now posses a pick swap with Suns in 2025, the Suns’ pick in 2027 and could end up with the Suns’ pick in 2029 based on contingencies. The Nets had originally acquired this draft capital when they traded Durant to the Suns in Feb. 2023.
Most importantly in the deal, per sources: Houston relinquishes the right to swap a Houston/OKC first-round pick for Brooklyn's 2025 first-round pick. The Nets control their own pick as they go into a full rebuild — especially important in talented 2025 draft. https://t.co/jUR0f5lSjM

Wojnarowski added that Houston was hoping to use these picks to trade the Suns for Durant, who cannot seem to stay away from his name being brought up in trade talks since leaving the Oklahoma City Thunder in 2016. Since OKC, Durant played for the Golden State Warriors and Nets before he requested a trade to Phoenix in the summer of 2022 and eventually was dealt to the Valley at the trade deadline the following season.
The implications of the Rockets landing the Suns' picks? Houston wants to trade for Kevin Durant and that becomes far easier if they can return the Suns' picks that they gave up in the Durant deal to the Nets. Suns have said they're keeping Durant for now, but that could change…

Durant’s business partner, Rich Kleiman, had a more direct response to this report.
“Just casually using Kd name again for clicks,” Kleiman posted on X in response to a post by user @itsCSB__ that reads “just casually bombing that they wanna trade for KD lol.”

For now, it seems like Durant is primed to stay in Phoenix. General manager and president of basketball operations James Jones has already said the Suns won’t be trading any of the team’s Big 3 of Durant, Devin Booker or Bradley Beal this offseason.
Durant, who will be 36 at the start of next season, has two years left on his four-year, $194.2 million contract. He is also eligible for a one-year extension this offseason.
The first round of the 2024 NBA Draft is later today at 5 p.m. MST, and the Suns own the No. 22 overall pick. Free agency begins on June 30. There are already fireworks in the NBA with this news and the Nets trading Mikal Bridges to the New York Knicks.
