According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, “BREAKING: Connecticut’s Dan Hurley has turned down the Los Angeles Lakers’ six-year, $70 million offer and will return to chase a third straight national title, sources tell ESPN. LA would’ve made him one of NBA’s six highest paid coaches.”

Los Angeles fired Darvin Ham on May 3 and has been very thorough in the process of trying to replace him.

Wojnarowski adds: “After a dogged pursuit of Hurley over past weeks, Lakers will regroup and resume bringing in candidates for interviews with hope of hiring a coach by Draft, sources said. James Borrego is expected to remain part of group and Lakers could do their first formal interview with JJ Redick.”

In comparison, the Suns fired coach Frank Vogel on May 9 and named Mike Budenholzer the team’s next coach just two days later.

The Lakers were reported to be preparing a “massive offer” for Hurley, according to ESPN, after targeting him to be the team’s next head coach last week. Hurley, the younger brother of Arizona State basketball coach Bobby Hurley, has won the last two NCAA championships with UConn, where he has posted a 141-58 record in six seasons.

Now, Wojnarowski reports that “Hurley already had a UConn offer to become one of highest paid NCAA coaches and those talks will continue, per sources.”

Who do you think the Lakers will hire instead of Hurley?
