The newest Arizona State basketball commit, Joson Sanon, recently explained his decision to flip from Arizona to Arizona State to Bleacher Report’s Jonathan Wasserman.

“Arizona would have been a good spot, but the deal was for Caleb Love to get drafted and I’d have that role,” Sanon told B/R. “He ended up announcing he’d be going back, so I wound up going to the rival school, and it set off some heat.”

“Coach Bobby Hurley explained how he would be getting me the ball, and show me different ways to score on and off the ball.”

Sanon made his commitment less than 30 minutes after Love’s decision to come back last week on May 29.

This interview came at the Adidas Eurocamp in Treviso, Italy. Throughout the event, the 6-foot-6 guard shot 12-of-26 from 3 and posted games of 23 and 30 points, despite playing older competition.

Arizona State fans should not get too attached to Sanon, however, as he made one thing clear to Wasserman.

“I’m one-and-done,” he said.

Sanon will still have to compete with the likes of incoming four-star, 6-foot-8 wing Amier Ali, returnees Adam Miller and Brycen Long, as well as transfers 6-foot-6 forward BJ Freeman (from Milwaukee), 6-foot-1 guard Alston Mason (from Missouri State), and 6-foot-2 guard Austin Nunez (from Ole Miss).

Wasserman notes that Sanon was the “clear lead guard for USA Select at Eurocamp, and he should have the freedom and skill set to be a focal point of the Sun Devils’ offense, especially with Frankie Collins transferring to TCU.”

“Maurizio Gherardini, Eurocamp’s founder, acknowledged Sanon’s impressive shooting and told him his immediate focus should be on the details and getting tough defensively.”
