Potter originally committed to Michigan State on Sept. 21, 2023, just a few games into last season with the USA Hockey National Team Development Program (US-NTDP) U17 squad. He picked Michigan State over Michigan, North Dakota and Minnesota.
Transitioning from travel hockey with the Dallas Stars 16U AAA program to the US National U17 Team last year, Potter played 54 games. He would accumulate 17 goals and 29 assists for 46 points.
Competing in the United States Hockey League (USHL) with the USNTDP Junior team, the 17-year-old pocketed nine goals and 13 assists for 27 in 35 games. Representing his country on a global stage, the Wisconsin native participated in the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge where he had eight points (1 G, 7 A) in seven games.
According to Puck Preps, Potter is the No. 5 ranked North American skater born in 2007.

When analyzing way-too-early 2025 NHL mock drafts, The New York Times has him landing at No. 16, while Lines.com and CapFriendly both project him to go 15th.
Potter is a massive addition to Sun Devils head coach Greg Powers’ team who are set to play their first season in arguably the toughest college division in all of hockey, the NCHC. Last summer, ASU Hockey announced the switch from being an independent program to entering the NCHC.
With a step up in competition and a lot of hype surrounding him, Potter is destined to become a star at Arizona State next season.
