Instead of two captains picking their teams from a draft-like style, the league announced that All-Stars who also play for the 2024 USA Basketball Women’s National Team will clash against the remaining pool of players on Team WNBA.

“The 2024 AT&T WNBA All-Star Game will feature a matchup between the WNBA All-Stars who comprise the USA Basketball Women’s National Team versus the remaining WNBA All-Stars,” a press release said.”

Returning to these two teams, this will be the second time such event has happened against each other. It will also be the third installment of a WNBA All-Star Game that will be in Phoenix (2000, 2014).

The last time this setup happened was in 2021 when Team WNBA beat Team USA 93-85 in Las Vegas. Dallas Wings star Arike Ogunbowale was the MVP after scoring 28 points from 10-of-18 shooting and going 5-for-10 from three.

Now in their home city, expect Phoenix Mercury stars like Diana Taurasi and Brittney Griner to play for USA. Additionally, Kahleah Copper has also played internationally for Team USA and could also join her new Mercury teammates in this basketball extravaganza.

The league’s 20th All-Star Game is scheduled for July 20th at 5:30 p.m. PT at Footprint Center and will air on ABC.

As for the Mercury, they will begin their 2024 WNBA season against the reigning champions in the Las Vegas Aces on May 14 at 7 p.m. PT in Vegas.
