Improving to 4-0 this spring, Ryne Nelson allowed the Diamondbacks to jump out to an early lead with a handful of shutout innings. Nelson’s lone run allowed came in the 5th inning.

The Diamondbacks finally got their offense going with three runs in the first three innings. Ketel Marte, who started things with a leadoff single, came around to score to get Arizona on the board early.

Then, continuing his impressive Cactus League debut, Blaze Alexander connected for a home run over the fence in centerfield. Alexander has made a strong case to make the Diamondbacks’ opening day roster.

In the 9th, to provide a much-needed insurance run, Jancarlos Cintron blasted a homer to give Arizona a 5-3 lead.

The game ended with Texas stranding two runners on the basepath, down one run.

Next up for the Diamondbacks is a game against the Los Angeles Angels tomorrow at 1:10 PM.
