The Arizona Coyotes and Calgary Flames face-off for the second time in a week span after a gruesome encounter against each another.
In Tempe, the Coyotes were blown out 6-2 by the Flames with Yegor Sharangovich scoring a hat trick on Jan. 11.
Calgary constructed a four goal first period and took advantage of multiple turnovers committed by Arizona to attribute to their victory.
That battle completed a 1-4 homestand for the Coyotes, being outscored 25-9 during that stretch and did not lead in a first period once.
However, Arizona came out with more juice and were revitalized to beat a Central Division rival their next time out.
Nick Bjugstad registered a hat-trick, Clayton Keller had a three-point night and Connor Ingram recorded a 38-save shutout as Arizona demolished the Minnesota Wild 6-0 last Saturday. Keller has seven points in his last four games.
Heading up north to Calgary tonight, the Coyotes will seek for revenge against one of the better teams in hockey as of recently.
The Flames are 3-0-0 in their past three games, and Blake Coleman posted a seven-point week (four goals, three assists) to be named the NHL’s No. 2 Star of the Week.
Captain Mikael Backlund scored and assisted Calgary’s 3-1 win over the Vegas Golden Knights on Jan. 13.
On special teams, the Flames possess the fourth-worst power play in the league (13.4%). Even though they struggle on the man advantage, the Flames have the sixth-best penalty kill (84.2%).
With only one point separating Arizona (44) and Calgary (45), both teams will want to create a cushion and set the other back in the standings.
