In a recent episode of his podcast, Draymond Green revealed further details about the internal conflicts he was dealing with after he was suspended indefinitely from the NBA due to multiple non-basketball plays that led to ejections.

The final nail in the coffin that led to the NBA taking drastic measures came against the Phoenix Suns. Green was ejected following a “swing” at the Suns’ Jusuf Nurkic. While Nurkic was okay, this was the second major incident to occur in the past month with Draymond. The first incident, where Green put Rudy Gobert into a headlock, resulted in a five-game suspension.

Now, 12 games later, Green has received the green light to return to practice with the Warriors. Green was required to receive counseling and had to wait until the league deemed him ready to get back to the court.

Interestingly, talking about the situation during his podcast, Green spoke about how close he was to retiring from the NBA. Green recounted how he spoke with league commissioner Adam Silver and how it was actually Silver who talked Green out of taking such drastic measures.

“I told him, ‘Adam, this is too much for me. … This is too much. It’s all becoming too much for me — and I’m going to retire.’ And Adam said, ‘You’re making a very rash decision and I won’t let you do that.'”

Green then gave some outstanding praise for the league commissioner and how well Silver handled the situation, “We had a long, great conversation — very helpful to me. Very thankful to play in a league with a commissioner like Adam who’s more about helping you than hurting you; helping you than punishing you. He’s more about the players.”

Draymond has played all 12 seasons of his decorated career with the Warriors. During this period, he has attended four All-Star games, been named Defensive Player of the Year, and won four NBA championships.

It is expected that Green will return to the Warriors lineup sometime this weekend. In his absence, Golden State posted a 7-5 record. The next time the Warriors will face the Suns is on February 10th.
