Running Back Raleek Brown Will Be A Weapon For the Sun Devils

Raleek Brown is one of the top transfers for ASU this year. He transferred from USC as a WR but will be a Running Back. Head Coach Kenny Dillingham assured us of that.

“Yeah, he’s a running back in my mind,” Dillingham said.

Dillingham spoke on Raleek and his potential.

“Going back in my history, he is a Kenny Gainwell, who I had in Memphis.” Dillingham said, “Where he is a running back, you can flex out in the slot and create matchups. I love playing basketball in the grass and trying to get running backs and tight ends matched up with players who can’t cover them. Getting a guy like Raleek allows us to kind of dictate a little bit to the defense and create really plus matchups when he does flex out.

He also talked about how they couldn’t do those things last year, which was a big emphasis in the portal.

“We didn’t have that last year to a point.” Dillingham said, “It was just how people were personelling us with our Tight End position. They were treating our Tight End like a wideout, so you couldn’t really gain a plus one or create a false matchup. Our Running Backs were physical downhill guys who weren’t wideouts.”

For those who don’t know, Kenny Gainwell is a running back for the Eagles who is a heavy pass-catching back.

Raleek is 184 pounds, but he is a “ball of muscle,” according to Kenny Dillingham. His size isn’t an issue, and he is super excited to bring Brown in and have him compete.

Brown was an RB/WR combo his freshman year and did a great job at both. He finished with almost 400 total yards. However, he was made solely a receiver his sophomore year and barely produced, which is why Dillingham had to make sure that he made it clear that Brown would be an RB for ASU.

Brown is an absolute weapon that ASU will use a lot next year. As Dillingham said, he provides pass-game help that wasn’t there last year. Brown had almost 5,800 total yards in high school with 4,000 of those coming on the ground. He will be a threat and has a chance to be an NFL-type star for ASU. It also helps that he was teammates with starting QB Jaden Rashada in high school, so they already have that connection.
