Sahuarita Baseball Look To Build Off Successful Season

To continue the series of outlooking high school baseball teams ahead of the new season, Sahuarita is up next.

The Sahuarita Mustangs Varsity Baseball team will attempt to capitalize off the semifinal playoff run they had last season.

Semifinal Run

The Mustangs finished last season with a 24-7 record and outscored opponents 209-99.

Sahuarita dominated their way through the first few rounds of the playoffs but fell short 2-0 to the Saguaro Sabercats in the 4A playoffs semifinal.

Despite falling just short, the Mustangs proved that they could compete with any team in the 4A and should be considered contenders each year.

Sahuarita’s Departures

As with every high school team, the Mustangs lost several key players to graduation in May.

This includes two of their top four hit leaders from last season, Brian Brimmer and Hector Hernandez. Despite the losses, the team has more than enough talent to make up for it.

Current senior Nathan Huei led the team in hits during his junior season. Huei finished the season batting .390 on 39 hits and 27 RBIs, consisting of 10 doubles, three triples, and five home runs.

Season Outlook

Sahuarita should undoubtedly be considered one of the championship favorites for this upcoming season. The talent and coaching are there, as well as the playoff experience.

Keep an eye on the Mustangs as they attempt to build off a successful semifinal playoff run.
