Burn City Fantasy Football Flavor of Week 12

© Jamie Germano/Rochester Democrat and Chronicle / USA TODAY NETWORK

The third edition of the Burn City Fantasy Football Flavor of the Week is here as Week 12 of the NFL season begins on Thanksgiving, Nov. 23.

Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!

After the Week 10 of this series went extremely well, this past week’s version went okay, but nothing special.

Here is was what I recommended you to do with certain players and how they did for Week 11:

Trade For: Houston Texans wide receiver Nico Collins vs. Arizona Cardinals on Nov. 19 — 7 receptions, 65 yards = 6.5 Fantasy Points

Waiver Wire Pickup: Minnesota Vikings running back Ty Chandler vs. Denver Broncos on Nov. 19 — 10 carries, 73 yards = 11 Fantasy Points

Cut: Chicago Bears running back Roschon Johnson vs. Detroit Lions on Nov. 19 — 6 carries, 30 yards = 3 Fantasy Points

Even though I talked about Johnson needing to be dropped since he doesn’t post significant numbers, the Bears are suffering injuries in their run game and it may be a safe bet to hold on to him for the time being.

Additionally, with Texans wide receiver Noah Brown inactive yesterday against the Cardinals, Collins was primed to get more playing time and receptions.

Instead, Houston quarterback C.J. Stroud chose to target not Collins as much, but wide receiver Tank Dell which would hurt Collins’ production.

In fairness, Chandler picking up 11 points as a waiver wire pickup is solid, especially since the free agent market is slim pickings nowadays as we edge closer to Fantasy Playoffs.

With that being said, there are still a few targets that I recommend you should try to acquire or pick up as free agents.

However, as said before, playoffs are near and it’ll be very challenging to get a “game-changer” anymore.

Trade For: QB Matthew Stafford, Los Angeles Rams

Hear me out, I know the Rams aren’t the greatest of teams anymore since winning the Super Bowl a few years ago.

Also, Stafford just came back from a two-week absence dealing with a thumb injury.

But, if you are in need of a quarterback behind your No. 1, Stafford could be a sneaky trade target.

Owned in 47% of Yahoo and only 31% of ESPN fantasy leagues, shallower leagues of 10 or less teams could even pick him up from the waiver wire.

For this suggestion, I am thinking of 12+ team leagues specifically.

Yesterday, Stafford had 10.7 fantasy points against the Seattle Seahawks from this stat line: 17-31 completed passes, 190 yards, 1 touchdown.

Overall, Stafford has averaged 14.4 points this season and should be a solid, second quarterback for fantasy.

Furthermore, Stafford has started nine games this season and thrown for 2260 yards with a 59.2% completion rate and two touchdowns.

Despite the Rams’ tough schedule upcoming, their games during Fantasy Playoffs will be a lot easier.

This week, they play the 2-9 Arizona Cardinals which Stafford should be able to get 10 points at least.

Following that, Stafford goes up against the Cleveland Browns (7-3) and Baltimore Ravens (8-3) which will be a rough set of games.

Once they get past that two-game gauntlet, Fantasy Playoffs begin.

Rams Schedule During Fantasy Football Playoffs

  • vs. Washington Commanders (4-7), Dec. 17.
  • vs. New Orleans Saints (5-5), Dec. 21.
  • at New York Giants (3-8), Dec. 31.

Waiver Wire Pickup: WR Khalil Shakir, Buffalo Bills

When you think of Buffalo, there are two players: wide receiver Stefon Diggs and quarterback Josh Allen.

While those two have the spotlight, someone else goes under the radar and that is Shakir.

Taking a look at his average fantasy points this season, 4.4 isn’t anything that makes him a must-add.

Recently though, Shakir has shown offensive promise that could make him a viable option going forward.

Over his last three weeks, Shakir has averaged 8.5 fantasy points, including a whopping 17.5 yesterday against the New York Jets.

At home, Shakir had 3 receptions for 115 yards and scored a touchdown versus New York.

Now, this pickup could be a “boom or bust,” a risky player that could either put up big numbers or doesn’t help you out fantasy-wise whatsoever.

In his second NFL season, Shakir has amassed 363 yards on 22 receptions and scored 2 touchdowns in 11 games.

Claim Shakir at your own risk if you absolutely need another receiver in deeper leagues.

For 12+ team leagues, Shakir should be available as he is 11% owned on Yahoo and 6% on ESPN.

Drop: TE Tyler Conklin, New York Jets

There are few players to drop from the Jets as their offense has been mediocre to say the least.

At the time of reporting, New York have the second-least amount of offensive yards (2,703), third lowest passing yards (1,705) and also total points scored (150).

Because of this, Engram’s number’s have been abysmal to say the least.

Owned in 20% in both Yahoo and ESPN leagues, the Jets TE should be rostered way lower.

Moreover, experts from multiple media outlets are ranking him as high as the 12th best tight end in the league which is blasphemy.

In the 32-6 loss to the Bills on Nov. 19, New York went to third string quarterback Tim Boyle amid struggles of Zach Wilson.

Conklin would still only be targeted three times and caught two passes for 18 yards, recording only 1.8 fantasy points.

If I were you, I would not target or have any offensive players from the Jets on a roster in fantasy football, at least until star QB Aaron Rodgers returns.

When looking at their upcoming schedule, the Jets may win one or two games, but this is a difficult slate for New York.

Jets Upcoming Schedule (Games in Italics = Fantasy Playoffs)

  • vs. Miami Dolphins (7-3)
  • vs. Atlanta Falcons (4-6)
  • vs. Houston Texans (6-4)
  • at Miami Dolphins (7-3)
  • vs. Washington Commanders (4-7)
  • at Cleveland Browns (7-3)
