Diamondbacks’ ace Zac Gallen eager for spring training to start

Oct 27, 2023; Arlington, Texas, USA; Arizona Diamondbacks pitcher Zac Gallen looks on from the dugout as they play the Texas Rangers during Game 1 of the World Series at Globe Life Field.

While we may only be two weeks into the MLB offseason, Diamondbacks’ ace Zac Gallen is already itching for spring training to begin.

Similar to how every other baseball player spends their offseason, Gallen recently participated in the Pro-Am at Schwab Cup with his teammate and fellow pitcher, Merrill Kelly.

After his round, Gallen spoke about his feelings towards the next couple of months and, more importantly, his emotions towards getting back onto the diamond.

Although he did admit that spending time with family and getting back into a normal routine is always nice, Gallen is already excited for spring training, which, believe it or not, is just a few months away.

2023 was not necessarily Gallen’s best year on the mound, at least to his standards.

Yet despite his struggles towards the end of the season, which caused his ERA to rise to 3.47, he was still voted a CY Young finalist.

Unfortunately, his 2023 campaign came to an end with a near-masterclass in Game 5 of the World Series. Gallen no-hit the Rangers through five innings, but, with no offensive help, he was still credited with a loss as he departed in the 7th with his team trailing 1-0.

The Diamondbacks ultimately lost this game 5-0, officially eliminating them from the postseason and cutting their underdog run a few wins short.

Pitchers and catchers are set to report around the second week of February, bringing the good news that Gallen won’t have to wait long to step back onto the mound.
