The Phoenix Suns were home against the San Antonio Spurs. This was the third straight game that the Suns were without Devin Booker and Bradley Beal. Devin Booker sprained his ankle in the opening night game against the Golden State Warriors. Bradley Beal has not played yet this season while dealing with back spasms. Grayson Allen and Eric Gordon took their places in the starting line-up again.

Kevin Durant was guarding Victor Wembanyama on the defensive end. Wembanyama was guarding Josh Okogie to start the game.
The first time Wembanyama touched the ball, Durant stripped him and then came down and hit a mid-range jumper. The run continued for the Suns, they scored eight unanswered points to start the game.

The Spurs were able to stay in the game despite the early run from the Suns. Phoenix was up 16-9 with 4:18 left in the quarter. The Suns would expand the lead over the next minute plus behind the play of Allen, Yuta Watanabe, and Kevin Durant. Suns led 22-14 with three minutes left in the quarter.
Spurs came out in a 3-2 zone with Wembanyama at the top of it after the timeout. The Suns continued to play well against man or zone. Phoenix led 27-18 at the end of the first quarter.

Durant led all scorers with 10 points. Eric Gordon scored 7 in the quarter. Wembanyama had two points.
Second Quarter
The Suns came out hot to start the second quarter, they started it on a 10-2 run.
There was no sign of slowing down as the lead expanded after that. The Suns were up 45-29 with 6:30 left in the quarter. Gordon had seven points in the second quarter up to this point and 14 for the game.

The Spurs started to show some life on offense and cut the lead to 13. Suns were up 50-37 with 4:57 left in the quarter.
Grayson Allen would expand the lead for the Phoenix with back to back three pointers. The Suns were up at halftime 63-45.
Players of the Half
Grayson Allen was the leading scorer for both teams with 16 points. He went 4/5 from three point range and 4/4 from the free throw line. Kevin Durant and Eric Gordon had 14 points each. The leading scorer for the Spurs was Keldon Johnson with nine points.
Key Stats of the Half
The Suns shot 10/20 from the three point line while the Spurs shot 5/17. The Suns shot 52% from the floor compared to 37% for San Antonio. Victor Wembanyama struggled in the half going 1/6 for six points.
Third Quarter
The third quarter started with the teams exchanging buckets. Wembanyama made his first three pointer of the game.

The Suns were up 73-53 with eight minutes left in the quarter. The Spurs would close the gap over the next few minutes behind the play of Zach Collins and Keldon Johnson. Phoenix was up 78-66 with 5:27 left in the third quarter.
San Antonio continued to play well and closed the gap to nine points. Yuta Watanabe then hit back to back threes to expand the lead for the Suns.

Phoenix was up 95-82 at the end of the third quarter. Eric Gordon led the Suns with 20 points. Keldon Johnson led all scorers with 21.
Fourth Quarter
The Spurs came out strong to start the fourth on a 11-3 run. The Suns were up 98-93 with 8:22 left in the game. This was mainly behind the play of Wembanyama who had five points, one assist, and one block to that point in the quarter.

The Suns took a timeout after the lead was cut to five and immediately scored four unanswered points to expand the lead to 102-93 with 6:40 left.
The Spurs would cut the lead down again and be down to 107-102 with 4:45 left in the game. The Spurs would get the Suns’ lead down to three points before Jusuf Nurkic hit a three and deterred a shot at the rim.
Devin Vassell did not let the Suns spread the lead as he had scored 10 points with a little over two minutes left in the quarter.
The Suns were only by three when Kevin Durant made his defender look silly and put the Suns up by five.
This was short lived as the Suns would give up six unanswered points to take the lead 115-114.

Kevin Durant attempt a game winning shot after that play and the shot hit the right side of the rim and fell to the court. The Spurs won 115-114. Each team is now 2-2 on the season.

Keldon Johnson had 27 points on 10/20 shooting from the floor. Devin Vassell and Victor Wembanyama had 18 points each. Kevin Durant had 26 points and seven assists on 63% shooting from the floor. Eric Gordon had 20 points and Grayson Allen scored 19.
Key Stats of the Game
The Spurs shot the ball much better in the second half. In the first half they shot 29% from three and 37% from the floor. In the second half they shot 55% from the floor and 45% from three.
The Spurs also won the turnover battle by forcing 19 turnovers and only committing 12 in the game.
