Chris ‘Mad Dog’ Russo claimed he will retire if the Diamondbacks advance to the World Series

Arizona Diamondbacks head coach Torey Lovullo before their NLCS Game 5 against the Philadelphia Phillies at Chase Field on Oct. 21, 2023, in Phoenix, AZ. The Phillies beat the Diamondbacks 6-1, giving Philadelphia the overall lead of 3-2 in the NLCS playoffs.

Throughout the postseason, the Diamondbacks have found themselves consistently underestimated, especially given their shaky finish to the regular season with four consecutive losses.

But, despite the low expectations, Torey Lovullo and his ballclub have continued to prove to the baseball world that what they are accomplishing is no fluke.

Whether it be sweeping the Brewers in the Wild Card round, sweeping the Dodgers in the NLDS, or taking the Phillies the distance in the NLCS, there should be no doubt that the D-backs have earned their spot on this stage.

Except, of course, for a few doubters.

Ahead of the Diamondbacks Game 7 matchup in Citizens Bank Park, Chris ‘Mad Dog’ Russo claimed that he would retire if the Diamondbacks did advance to the World Series.

This audacious statement swiftly prompted manager Torey Lovullo to respond with a curt ‘I’m looking forward to that,’ per USA Today’s Bob Nightengale.

As Lovullo has claimed all postseason, the Diamondbacks are keeping receipts. Now, they aim to secure the grandest receipt of all by defeating the Phillies in the NLCS.

The first pitch is set for 5:07 p.m. Arizona time.
