Nick Wright: Austin Reaves is Better Fit than Bradley Beal on Championship-Level Team

Ahead of the Suns’ final preseason game against the Lakers, Fox Sports’ analyst Nick Wright made an interesting claim regarding Austin Reaves and Bradley Beal.

“Let me be very clear, I think if you’re trying to win a championship, I would rather have as my third guy Austin Reaves and the things he does, than Bradley Beal, if my top two guys are those guys,” Wright said on his show, “First Things First.”

This sounds like a crazy statement given that Beal has been a better player for a long time.

However, Beal is on a 5-year, $251 million heavy contract that he signed last offseason, while Reaves is on a four-year, $54 million deal, which he signed this offseason. Beal is also older (30 vs. 25) and his biggest concern is defense, which Reaves has been stellar at with the Lakers.

The thing is: We don’t know how Bradley Beal will fit in as a third piece, so it’s way too early to judge. He is also way more established in the league than Reaves, and given that, he can probably operate better when he’s not forced to be the main guy. Overall, this is a bit of a head-scratching take that fans do not like.

The Suns’ offensive firepower appears to be significantly better than the Lakers at this point, but defense might be in the Lakers’ favor.

Beal has a chance to shut up a lot of people and prove that he will not only be a good player on the Suns, but elevate their style of play to a championship-winning team.
