While postseason baseball inherently delivers plenty of excitement, the introduction of some back-and-forth talking between two opposing players adds an extra layer of excitement for fans to see.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe! In a lighthearted exchange, Diamondbacks’ Game 2 starter Merrill Kelly playfully teased the atmosphere at Citizens Bank Park. Kelly stated that he believes the fans were louder during the World Baseball Classic than what he has witnessed so far in Philadelphia.
Phillies’ shortstop Trea Turner, who once shared the field with Kelly as part of Team USA, was quick to respond to Kelly’s comments ahead of Game 2.
Per Bob Nightengale at USA Today, Trea Turner snapped back with, ‘We’ll see what he says after tonight’s game.’
Turner boasts an impressive track record against Merrill Kelly, holding a .429 batting average across 21 at-bats in their matchups.
And, so far this postseason, Turner has been almost unstoppable at the plate.
Over the course of the Wild Card round, NLDS, and Game 1 of the NLCS, Turner has amassed 14 hits in 28 at-bats and has managed to cross the plate in each of the Phillies’ last five games.
Additionally, he maintains an active 11-game hit streak in the postseason, a run that extends back to 2021.
Now, the spotlight shifts to Merrill Kelly, who will aim to contain Turner and the deadly Phillies lineup as the Diamondbacks desperately need a win to level the series before returning home.
The first pitch for this Game 2 matchup is set for 5:07 PM.
