Previously, there were 13 other players to make their debuts in the NHL on that unwritten holiday, and Cooley became the 14th.
Furthermore, Cooley would get his second career point as he assisted on Coyotes right-winger Nick Schmaltz’s game-tying goal to make it 3-3 with 6:05 left in regulation.
When speaking postgame about his performance, Cooley said he believes in himself while playing against NHL competition every game-night.
“I’ve always had high expectations of myself,” Cooley said. “I want to produce at a high level and help win this team games. Tonight was one step in the right direction.”
With multiple milestones achieved in his debut, the third pick in the 2022 NHL Draft by Arizona in Cooley has the chance to break more franchise or league-wide records going forward.
