With the Wild Card round set to commence on Tuesday, Brewers manager Craig Counsell has announced that his team will be without RHP Brandon Woodruff against the Diamondbacks, per Jesse Rogers at ESPN.

Woodruff’s playing time throughout the season had already been curtailed due to a string of injuries, as the two-time All Star has had to deal with numerous setbacks, including a diagnosis of Raynaud’s syndrome back in June.

In total, these injuries limited Woodruff to just 11 starts for the Brewers, marking a considerable decline compared to his 27 starts in 2022.

However, despite the limited playing time and constant wave of injuries, Woodruff still managed to completely dominate on the mound when healthy.

The 30-year-old concluded the season with a remarkable 2.28 ERA and an impressive tally of 74 strikeouts over 67 innings of work.

This played a large role in the Brewers ending the regular season with a major league best team ERA of 3.74

And, his performance from the beginning of August, encompassing nine starts, led many to believe he would be primed for postseason action.

Unfortunately, this will not be the case which will likely result in the Brewers handing the ball over to Freddy Peralta to start game 2 against the Diamondbacks.
