The Key to the Cardinals Offense: How James Conner is Having a Major Impact

There are so many good running backs in the NFL right now. San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey may the consensus best back in the NFL. He leads the league in rushing yards so far with 353. Buffalo Bills running back James Cook is second with 267 yards. Right behind him is Arizona Cardinals running back James Conner with 266 yards.

Conner has been a good running back in the NFL for a long time now. The two-time pro bowler is in his seventh season. He has averaged 4.2 yards per carry so far in his career but this year has been has been his best so far. Number six is averaging 5.2. yards per carry in the first three games this season.

He sets the tone for the Cardinals offense with his physical running style. Conner has five broken tackles on the season.

Conner not only runs with an edge but he shows great patience to allow the holes to open.

When the running game is performing well. It opens up the passing game. Against the Dallas Cowboys, Conner ran for 98 yards on 14 carries. This helped Cardinals quarterback Joshua Dobbs go 17/21 for 189 yards and one touchdown through the air.

James Conner is currently on pace to finish the season with 1,507 yards. If he continues to play like this, Arizona’s offense will be very hard to stop.
