Summerhays, the lone amateur to qualify for the tournament, struggled on theĀ front nine where he bogeyed two holes, concluding his first nine holes with a 2-over 37.

The 21-year-old out of ASU instantly turned it around on the back nine when he birdied the 10th hole. He follows this up with an eagle on hole 12 and another birdie on the 15th hole. He finished with a 33 on the back nine ending 2-under for the round.

Out of his trio who teed off Thursday morning at 9:07 a.m., Summerhays finished second, one stroke behind 26-year-old Hayden Springer.

He averaged the fifth longest distance off the tee with 325.5 yards per drive and had 50% driving accuracy. He finished Thursday’s round tied in 28th with a large handful of other players.

Summerhays and his trio will tee off last on Friday afternoon with a tee time of 2:17 p.m.
