After a win against the Colorado Rockies, the Diamondbacks announced making the move to pull up Arizona’s top prospect, Jordan Lawlar. The Diamondbacks also elected to designate IF Nick Ahmed for assignment.

The Dallas, Texas native has been receiving massive hype from his former ball club, AAA affiliate Reno Aces over the past several weeks.

Diamondbacks fans have been chomping at the bit for Lawlar. Arizona’s fan base couldn’t have shown more excitement for the young star being brought up. Ever since the news broke there has been a twitter frenzy. If the clip posted by a Diamondbacks fan doesn’t say enough, I’m not sure what will.

So long, old friend
Although Diamondbacks fans were clearly excited for the move, there was no love lost for Nick Ahmed in the decision. In Ahmed’s 10 seasons with the Diamondbacks he played 888 games. Ahmed has been with the Diamondbacks through some tough times throughout his tenure and the Diamondback fan base showed their appreciation for him across social media platforms. Throughout his 10 year career so far, Ahmed holds a .234/.288/.376 hitters slash with a .664 OPS+.
Ahmed was definitely a serviceable shortstop and held it down with the Diamondbacks through struggles, hats off to you, Nick.
The future at the shortstop position, however, couldn’t be more exciting. Jordan Lawlar has hit 5 homers in just 16 games in Reno before receiving the call, he also boasted a .358/.438/.612 hitters slash in the time with a 1.050 OPS+.
Jordan Lawlar will make his first appearance with the Diamondbacks tomorrow, Thursday September seventh, on the road against the Chicago Cubs.
