Diamondbacks fans didn’t take the news too lightly when seeing 21 year old outfielder Jordan Lawlar was left off the list. Fans showed their frustration in many ways from memes, to paragraphs on social media questioning the move.

Being frustrated over the move is justifiable. Jordan Lawlar is one of the best prospects in baseball. On some lists he’s a top 3 prospect, some are even calling the young stud a 2024 Rookie of the Year candidate.

This season Lawlar has a hitters slash of .272/.373/.480 in 408 at bats. Lawlar also boasts 111 hits, 18 home runs and 36 stolen bases. The 21 year old outfielder was drafted sixth overall in 2021 by the Diamondbacks, out of Dallas Jesuit College Prep.

Why Him?

I feel as if though, it’s more of a question. The Reno Aces have been posting highlight after highlight of Lawlar over the past couple weeks. It was either that, or the fact that they chose OF Pavin Smith. When the news broke people on twitter said the Diamondbacks were ‘giving up’ on the season.

Smith has just a .187 batting average in 187 at bats in the bigs. Pavin Smith has way more big league experience under his belt, which could be needed in the playoffs. But, young energy has been massive for the Arizona Diamondbacks this year. Corbin Carroll, the soon to be Rookie of the Year, has been arguably the best player for the Diamondbacks on the season. Adding another electric young outfielder to the bunch can only bring positives, in my opinion.

Diamondbacks fans have grown accustomed through the entirety of the season to young ballers shining in bright spots. Another young bright light is exactly what they want.
