The USL Super League is aiming to make “world-class professional soccer” more accessible to women around the nation. In the first initiative, the city of Phoenix will be included in the market.

“We are thrilled to announce Super League Phoenix as one of our initial markets,” said Amanda Vandervort, USL Super League President. “With a world-class ownership group; a new centrally located stadium on the light rail; a wealth of talented players past, present and future; and a city bursting with soccer passion and pride, Super League Phoenix is poised for immediate success.”

With 10-12 teams expected to be a part of its inaugural season, the league is set to start in August of 2024. After its first season, the league is expected to make continuous expansions, adding teams throughout the U.S.

Out of nearly 40,000 women participating in collegiate soccer, post-graduation, only around 300 opportunities for professional-level soccer careers are available.

“We’re more than thrilled to help usher in a top-level professional women’s soccer team in the state of Arizona,” Bobby Dulle, the president of Phoenix Rising, said. “It’s exciting for us to be a part of the USL Super League, as the league will create a path to professional soccer for the thousands of girls and young women who play in our youth club and Arizona’s universities, and also generate more job opportunities for women in the sport of soccer.”
