– In-game penalty for flops resulting in technical foul free throw
– A second coach’s challenge awarded if first challenge is successful— Shams Charania (@ShamsCharania) July 11, 2023
The penalty for flopping in-game results in a technical free throw allowed for the other team. The NBA has been practicing the rule in Summer league play before making a final decision and there was an example of it during a game between the Thunder and Grizzlies.

This rule will hopefully change how players try to oversell foul calls to try to get their team an advantage in the bonus. It’s been a strategy of teams for years and it’s finally getting implemented in the leagues’ system.
Teams will also now get a second coach’s challenge if the first one is deemed successful. Before, teams were implemented with only one challenge no matter what but now it’s in full effect moving into this upcoming year and beyond.

We will see how this affects the game this upcoming year but this should be an interesting turn of events for players to try and not oversell fouls.
