Zach Davies got the start for the D-backs, and just like the past two, it was not pretty. Davies would allow six earned runs in four innings.

In his past three starts, Davies has thrown just 10.2 innings but has allowed 21 earned runs in that span. All three starts have resulted in Diamondbacks’ losses.

With a season ERA now over 7.00, it may be time for the Diamondbacks to move on from the 30-year-old right-hander.

On the offensive side, Arizona did mount a comeback after initially trailing early (3-1). A run in the 4th inning, followed by two more in the 5th, gave the D-backs a 4-3 lead.

However, the flood gates would then burst wide open for the Giants’ offense as they put up a five spot in the bottom of the fifth.

While Arizona attempted to answer back once again in the 8th, they would leave two runners in scoring position, ultimately halting any chance of starting the weekend with a victory.

The Diamondbacks are now 5-6 over their past 11 games as they continue to struggle to find any form of consistency in their starting pitchers.

Even with a 2.5 game lead over the Giants for first place in the NL West, the past few weeks have made it abundantly clear that the D-backs need to make a few moves before the trade deadline.

Game two of this three game series will be tomorrow at 1:05 PM. Merrill Kelly is scheduled to get the start with hopes of evening up the series.
