There is a new sheriff in town and his name is Corbin Carroll.

The 22-year-old rookie phenom is having a great season with the Diamondbacks and is one of the main reasons why the team is sitting first in the NL West at 37-25.

In his first full season with the team, Carroll is hitting .300, has 11 home runs, and 27 RBIs while being the frontrunner for National League Rookie of the Year.

His batting average sits at the top 15 in the majors and 8th in the National League. It’s safe to say that the young player is living up to the hype early on in his career.

Back in the 2019 draft, Carroll was picked by Arizona with the 16th pick in the first round and since then he moved up fast through the minor league system before making his debut during the 2022 season.

At the end of the 2022 season, Carroll finished with a stat line of .260/.330/.500 and had an on-base speed of 30.7 feet/second which would time him as the fastest player in baseball.

Before the start of the 2023 season, the Diamondbacks made sure to keep Carroll long-term by signing him to an 8-year deal worth $111 million. As we get to the halfway mark of the season, that contract is looking like a steal.

I already showed the stats above but to really show how valuable he is to the team, his wins above replacement stat is at 2.8 which is looked upon as second-best on a contending team behind only Braves star player Ronald Acuna who is at 2.9.

What’s even more insane is that with this stat, you would think of Carroll’s odds for National League MVP would be in the top 3. However, his odds are still slated at 200/1 compared to Acuna who is +115 to win.

Diamondbacks vs. Nationals postponed due to air quality

It seems like Vegas is betting on Carroll’s season to cool down a bit. With the way Carroll has been playing since he’s been drafted, it looks like he will continue this level of play and get even better as the years move forward.
