EAST RUTHERFORD — The Arizona Cardinals left MetLife Stadium with another loss Sunday, but are now in a situation the league will need to address involving an official and Trey McBride.

The incident occurred during the team’s matchup with the New York Giants late in the fourth quarter, when the official appeared to direct profanity toward the Cardinals tight end. McBride looked frustrated after no penalty was called following an incompletion and expressed his frustration to the official.
A sideline camera during the broadcast captured the moment, and it quickly went viral across social media. It also drew the attention of NFL Players Association executive director JC Tretter. Tretter called the official’s behavior “unacceptable” and said players are always held accountable when their behavior crosses a line with officials, so the same standard should be held for officials.
This kind of behavior from an official towards a player is unacceptable. Players are consistently held accountable when the roles are reversed. We expect the NFL to hold officials to the same standard. https://t.co/vawHA8Jrlt

According to ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter, the NFL has agreed to review the situation as the timing of the incident made the situation even more frustrating for Arizona.

The Cardinals trailed 27-24 with less than five minutes remaining, trying to extend a drive that could have changed the matchup. They ultimately punted, and New York sealed the win with an interception return for a touchdown on the final play.
As Arizona continues to search for answers after a third straight loss, the conversation about officials being held to the same standards as players will continue.

Now, it’s up to the league to determine what happened and whether any discipline is necessary.
