Earlier today on ESPN First Take, Kendrick Perkins sat down with Stephen A. Smith to discuss the health of the Phoenix Suns. As we all know, Kevin Durant isn’t healthy as he’s out with a left ankle sprain that will sideline him for a few weeks.

Perkins believes that whether Kevin Durant is healthy for the Suns or not, the Suns aren’t a title threat due to a multitude of factors outside of both Durant and Devin Booker.

“When it comes down to winning a championship and being a title contender, what do you need Stephen A. you need depth,” Perkins says. “How much do you really trust Deandre Ayton? You see when I look at Deandre Ayton he has all the upside in the world but I think he’s a Golden Retriever. I need him to be Rottweiler.”

There have been concerns ever since the Suns made the trade for Kevin Durant if whether or not the bench will be able to help in a major way as well as get more consistency from Deandre Ayton as the third scoring option on the team.

The Suns are 3-0 in the Kevin Durant era so far and have averaged 120 PPG while shooting 50% from the floor. With a little more playing time and chemistry, the Suns can be a tough out for anybody in the Western Conference, especially with Durant’s ability to play off the ball and score efficiently while spacing the floor.

Kevin Durant Could Play Through Ankle Injury If Playoffs Started Today

Only time will tell but it seems as if there are a few pundits that aren’t huge believers in the current roster. Will the Suns prove them wrong come playoff time?
