Cameron Payne’s Welcome Back Game Provides Much Needed Energy and Spark

© Mark J. Rebilas- USA TODAY Sports

Cameron Payne’s spark and energy for the team have always been something that has been noticed by his peers and coaches throughout his career. It’s what makes him so unique compared to other players.

That energy has been missing since he last stepped on a basketball court in live action against the Cleveland Cavaliers last month during a tough losing streak and an injury-riddled Suns team that just trying to find any momentum to turn their season around.

With the team now looking different with the Durant trade and healthy now with Booker back on the floor, Pane returned with something really similar to what he has always brought. His energy and spark.

In the Suns’ 124-116 win against the Oklahoma City Thunder, Payne dropped 14 points on 5-9 shooting and 3-5 from three-point range. He even added former teammate Mikal Bridges’ signature three-point shot after he made his last one of the night.

Payne talked about how tough it was during a stretch of games where he had to just rehab and wait until he could come back on the court and how much that took a toll on him.

“I am telling you all I was tired of just watching the games,” said Payne. “Since I have been with the Suns’ team, I have been playing. It is kind of hard to watch. Then the things that I bring to the game, aren’t in the game. I feel like I am hurting my team by not being out there.”

He let all of his frustration out on the court by inserting so much energy for his team. So much so that he needs a recharge as he says down below here in a funny clip during the press conference.

The amount of heart he gives to this team is unteachable and it’s one of the things the Suns will need if they want to go far in this year’s playoffs. Being out of the lineup did teach Payne some things that he learned about his game that he can bring to the team.

“Just watching, I learned some things. Now that I am back, all that stuff is whatever. We back, we got a new team. Just trying to figure it out.”

The Suns now will see familiar face on Sunday as they take on the Milwaukee Bucks and Jae Crowder he scored 9 points in his debut today against the Miami Heat. Let’s see if Payne brings that energy and spark on the road as well.
