Coming into this season with 999 career points, Phoenix Suns forward Bol Bol was just one point shy of 1,000 but hadn’t appeared in a game since.

With his name trending on social media Monday night for the lack of playtime this season, it was only a matter of minutes until Suns coach Mike Budenholzer gave the fans what they wanted.

Making his 2024-25 debut against the Sacramento Kings, he came off the bench and reached the milestone by making a free throw with 4:46 left in the fourth quarter. The Suns fell 127-104 and Bol finished with five points and a rebound.

After bouncing around after a three-year (2019-22) stint with the Denver Nuggets, Bol has inked two one-year contracts with Phoenix, including re-signing this offseason. He was traded from the Nuggets to the Boston Celtics before landing with the Orlando Magic during the 2022-23 campaign.

Last season for the Suns, the South Sudan native appeared in 43 games and averaged 5.2 points, 3.2 rebounds and 0.4 assists per game.

Practically every time he plays at home and on the road since being drafted in 2019, fans go crazy for him and cheer, becoming a fan favorite. Since Bradley Beal and Kevin Durant were both sidelined with injuries in Sacramento, Suns and NBA fans were excited to see him on the floor.

His 7-foot-3 height, 7-foot-8 wingspan, spot-up shooting ability and shot creation all make him a sneaky option as a bench option for Budenholzer.

While it remains to be seen how Budenholzer will use Bol going forward with the uncertainty about both Durant and Beal’s health, Bol will look to make the most out of the minutes he gets and contribute whenever he can.
